The range

Cables carry power from the generator to the meter, and the right type depends on the voltage, the route and how the cable is installed. We supply low, medium, high and extra high voltage cables for underground use, and aerial bundled cable for overhead networks, from 0.6/1 kV up to 330 kV, in copper and aluminium, and specified to the standards used across Australia and New Zealand.

Customised solutions available. If your project needs a voltage, conductor, construction or length outside the range below, including submarine cable, tell us and we will source cable to your specification.

Low Voltage (LV) Cables, 0.6/1 kV

Single and multicore copper or aluminium cables with XLPE or PVC insulation, armoured and unarmoured, for building services, industrial plant, street supplies and service connections.

Medium Voltage (MV) Cables, up to 33 kV

Single core and three core screened XLPE cables with copper or aluminium conductors and armoured options, for distribution feeders, zone substations, industrial sites and wind and solar collector circuits.

High Voltage (HV) Cables, 66 and 132 kV

Single core XLPE insulated copper cables with a metallic sheath and water blocking, for sub transmission and transmission circuits through cities, around substations and between networks.

Extra High Voltage (EHV) Cables, 220 and 330 kV

Single core XLPE insulated copper cables with a metallic sheath and large segmented (Milliken) conductors, for major city transmission links and large generation connections.

Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC)

Insulated aluminium cores twisted into one cable for overhead networks, in low voltage 0.6/1 kV and screened 11 kV versions. Quicker to hang than bare conductors, and far less affected by trees, birds, wind and storms.

Choosing a Cable

Conductor size is set by the current the circuit carries and by how the cable is laid or hung. Insulation, screen, armour and sheath follow the voltage, the fault current and the environment. We help you match the cable to your load, your route and the accessories at each end.

Installation and accessories

Cables are laid in the ground, in ducts or hung on poles, and joined and terminated with matching accessories.

Installation Methods

Direct buried, in PVC conduit or polyethylene pipe, in trenches, or in a pit and conduit system. Aerial bundled cable is hung from poles with suspension and anchor clamps. The route, soil and thermal conditions decide the method and the conductor size.

Terminations and Joints

Cables are joined and terminated with accessories matched to the cable construction. See our cable terminations, cable joints and boots and breakouts.

Drums and Delivery

Cable is supplied on drums sized for the route and the equipment on site. We plan drum lengths and delivery with you, including for remote and island projects.

Applications

Delstar supplies these systems for:

01

Distribution Networks

Low voltage supplies, medium voltage feeders and aerial bundled cable for streets, towns and rural areas.

02

Transmission and Sub Transmission Circuits

Underground links at 66 to 330 kV through built up areas and between substations.

03

Substation Connections

Cables between transformers, switchgear and overhead line connections.

04

Renewable Energy Projects

Collector circuits and grid connection cables for wind, solar and battery projects.

05

Industrial, Mining and Data Centres

Supplies to large industrial sites, processing plants and critical facilities.

06

Island and Coastal Networks

Cables for networks where wind, salt and storms make overhead lines hard to maintain.

Sourcing and quality assurance

We source cables from established manufacturers, selected for each project against the voltage, construction and standards you specify, to the AS/NZS and IEC standards for their voltage class. Delstar checks each cable against your requirements, including the technical confirmation of construction and test reports, and delivers across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.

Lifecycle support

  • Specification and selection: we help match the voltage, conductor, construction and standards to your project.
  • Technical confirmation: review of construction, type test reports and quality records before an order is placed.
  • Delivery: coordinated delivery on drums to site, depot or port, including remote and island destinations.
  • Support in service: technical support, and condition assessment where required through our asset management service.
