Cable terminations for LV and MV power cables.

Termination kits for 0.6/1 kV cables with one to five cores, with or without armour, including 3+1, 4+1 and 3+2 core cables. An adhesive coated breakout (a trifurcating breakout on three core cables) seals the cable crutch, and heat shrink insulation tubes seal between the lug and the core insulation. For single core cables only an insulation tube is needed.

Indoor and outdoor terminations for screened single core and three core polymeric insulated cables from 6 to 36 kV, in standard cross sections from 25 to 1200 mm², with larger sizes made to order. Stress control tube and stress relief mastic grade the electrical field at the screen cut, and anti tracking tubes and rain sheds give the creepage distance each voltage class needs. The same universal system also suits paper insulated cables.

Silicone rubber terminations for 0.6/1 kV cables and for medium voltage cables from 6 kV to 36 kV, indoor and outdoor. They are supplied pre expanded on a removable core and shrink onto the cable when the core is pulled out, with no heat, flame or special tools.

Termination kits for three core cables, low and medium voltage, indoor and outdoor, split the cable into three cores and include the adhesive coated trifurcating breakout that seals the crutch. They are supplied as standard kits or complete kits with lugs, in heat shrink and cold shrink.

Terminations are supplied as standard kits, or as complete kits with lugs. We can also supply lugs, connectors and a solderless earth connection system for armoured cables with the kit, and terminations and components for other cable types are available on request.

Stress relief mastic with a stress control tube, or a moulded stress cone in cold shrink designs, smooths the electric field at the end of the cable screen, where failures start if it is left uncontrolled.

Anti tracking insulation tubes, rain sheds and silicone housings resist tracking and erosion, so terminations keep their performance in polluted, coastal and wet conditions.

Hot melt adhesive inside the tubes and an adhesive coated breakout over the crutch seal the termination against moisture, and the top of each cold shrink termination is sealed in three steps.

The metal screen or armour can be connected to ground by soldering or by a solderless system. On cables with a wire screen, the copper wires are embedded in sealing mastic to prevent corrosion.

All materials resist UV and weathering, so the same termination families serve indoor switchrooms and outdoor pole and substation positions.

Selected 15 kV and 33 kV terminations have been type tested to IEC 60502-4 by an independent high voltage laboratory.

A termination is only as reliable as its installation. Poor installation is a significant cause of cable accessory failures. Heat shrink and cold shrink terminations must be installed by trained and certified jointers, following the manufacturer procedure for the cable type and voltage class, with correct preparation, stress control and sealing.
